Frequently asked questions

Can i bring my own rifle?

​Yes, you can bring your own rifles however, there are a few laws: You have to apply for a visitors firearms license a minimum of 4 months prior to arrival. Your rifle has to abide by New Zealand firearm safety laws (bolt action, no semi automatics, and can only hold under 5 in the magazine). 

Bow hunters don't need any paper work and can bring there bow just as carry on.

What calibre rifles would you use if you are using ours?

For those who don't want to travel with their own rifles, we have some trusted rifles and ammunition free of charge that are perfect for the New Zealand animals. We have  two Tika .270, a Bergara 7mm REM MAG, Tika .223 for smaller game and shotguns for our waterfowl.

What is the normal shot distance?

Deer, we try to get within 50-250 yards. Hunting Bull Tahr and chamois can sometimes get to 400-500 yards.

How do i get my trophy home and what is the cost?

We have a local and talented taxidermist here in Wanaka who does all of our trophies and expediting. You can decide to do the full taxidemy here or expedite it back home to get it taxidermy there. Either or, it needs to be boiled, cleaned and ticked off before putting in a crate. Our taxidermy has all the paperwork sorted for you once he knows the port of entry into U.S.A. If it is going back to another country, we will ask our taxidermy an approximate price.  Here are some indicative prices on what to expect to ship to the U.S.A, all are done in USD, and are subject to change each year.

Expediting only:

Cleaning and skinning Red stag prep: $240 approximately 

USA documentation- $220 approximately

Approved crate for exporting and packing- allow $250-$450

Trucking to the airport- Allow $200-$400

Air freight to U.S.A - Can fluctuate between $1200-$1800

Can I take the meat back home with me?

Yes, you can take 50 pounds per person back on the plane with you as checked luggage. However we can't ship any meat back. We have cooler boxes and ice pads at our lodge, we butcher it, pack it and send it with you with a letter of approval on where you harvested it. This is an extra $200 for us to do this.

What are the non-hunting activities for my spouse and family?

Non-hunters will have an endless amount of activities to do around this area. Located in Wanaka, our are is known for it's tourism and activities. From Jet boating up our alpine rivers, wine tasting at some of the worlds best vineyards, going to Queenstown to go up the gondola and taking a ride down on the luge, taking a helicopter or a plane over the amazing Milford or Doubtful sounds in the Fiordland. We are within 45 minutes of all of these activities, and we can put a plan together for the non-hunters sop they have just as much fun.
